Design Concept
- 2 wing layout separates the units with centrally placed shared units & ancillary space.
- Dead end corridors avoided where possible.
- Each corridor wing along spine walls symbolises the journey towards recovery & integration.
- The spine wall to each wing consist of unique colour scheme to help navigate around building.
- Natural lighting with high level clerestory windows in the bedrooms & skylights to corridors.
- arrangement of space allows maximum visibility & legibility for patients.
- Shared facilities centrally located to allow easy access from both wings.
- Curved arrangement of bedrooms symbolises embrace & sense of protection.
- Central open courtyard with controlled access provide secure 7 supervised external amenity space. A sunken trampoline is located in the courtyard.
- Existing access from main road is maintained & existing car park is utilised.
- Main access road from Brooklands site provides a separate access to kitchen, plant & refuse store at back of building.
- Future expansion of site is possible to the west, allowing additional ward buildings or administrative block, which can be accessed directly from the main Brooklands site.
